
Dr. Chris Alpert is a clinical psychologist who treats adolescents and adults with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, prolonged grief, and personality disorders. Chris has a particular interest and skillset in psycho-oncology and has worked with cancer patients and their families to improve quality of life and communication between family members and doctors during all stages of treatment. Furthermore, Chris’ psycho-oncology work has contributed to his skills in managing grief both before and after loss for all ages. He has sought further training in Prolonged Grief Disorder Treatment and is Grief Informed. He has foundational training in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and motivational interviewing (MI). His training experiences have all included working with teens and adults in individual, group, and family therapy settings.
Dr. Alpert graduated from Hampshire College where he studied developmental psychology, furniture making, and music performance. He received both his master’s and doctorate in clinical psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant International University in San Diego. His graduate training experiences have included inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care at Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital and inpatient palliative care and psycho-oncology at the University of California’s Moores Cancer Center. Chris completed his predoctoral internship at Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health in Canton, Ohio, where he worked with teens struggling to reacclimate to school following covid 19 as well as to manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, and impulsivity. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship in the 3East Residential DBT program at McLean Hospital, where he worked with adolescents and young adults with trauma, suicidal and self-injurious behaviors, and personality disorders. Chris’s training at McLean Hospital additionally included parent coaching and he values supporting parents and couples through difficult family dynamics and emotional communication deficits.
