The Body Project

The Body Project is a cognitive-dissonance-based, body-acceptance group intervention for adolescent girls. The group teaches adolescents to challenge unrealistic appearance ideals and develop a healthier body image.

A cheerful woman smiles at her reflection in a vintage-style mirror, exuding positivity and warmth.

The Body Project Group has multiple objectives. It aims to:

  1. Define the “appearance-ideal” and explore its origins
  2. Examine the costs of pursuing this ideal
  3. Explore ways to resist pressures to conform to beauty ideals in society
  4. Discuss how to challenge body-related concern
  5. Learn ways to talk more positively about our bodies
  6. Talk about how to respond to future appearance ideal pressure

The Concord Center values the accessibility of mental health services and is currently offering one free group to a qualifying school in our community.
