Behavioral Medicine/Health Psychology Services and Consultations

Behavioral medicine and Health Psychology Services

Our Health Psychology services deliver evidence-based behavioral medicine care for children, adolescents, and adults who are coping with the emotional, behavioral, and day-to-day functional effects of medical conditions and healthcare experiences.

We help patients and families build practical skills to manage symptoms, adjust to diagnoses, and improve quality of life while working alongside their medical teams.

Beyond direct clinical care, we also provide targeted consultation to physicians, specialty clinics, and healthcare systems, offering guidance on behavioral health needs, communication strategies, and care planning. This supports truly integrated, coordinated treatment across settings and stages of care.

We support individuals and families with:

  • Abdominal pain, gastrointestinal discomfort, and other functional symptoms that may come and go or feel hard to explain
  • Adjusting to a new diagnosis or coping with an ongoing medical condition over time
  • Challenges following treatment plans or medical recommendations, including motivation, routines, and lifestyle changes
  • Grief and loss connected to illness, changing abilities, or unexpected medical transitions
  • Medical fears and phobias can make care feel hard. These include fear of needles, fear of procedures, and trouble swallowing pills. With support, care can feel more manageable and less stressful.

Our therapeutic approaches include:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT)
  • Behavioral medicine–informed interventions tailored to medical contexts

Consultation, collaboration & specialty services:

  • Consultation and ongoing collaboration with medical providers, specialty clinics, and larger healthcare systems to align care plans, clarify recommendations, and improve continuity across settings.
  • Coordination with multidisciplinary care teams across hospitals, outpatient practices, and schools, ensuring that communication is timely and that services are integrated around the child and family’s goals.
  • Proactive outreach and case consultation to help teams navigate complex medical-behavioral needs, address barriers to care, and identify practical strategies that support treatment follow-through.
  • A specialized Pediatric Needle Anxiety Clinic focused on reducing fear and distress around injections, blood draws, and procedures (next clinic is in August 2026)
