At The Concord Center, we offer individualized parent guidance to support children—from toddlers to young adults—by working directly with parents. In these sessions, you’ll learn practical, evidence-based strategies to help your child manage emotions and behavior more effectively.
Our parent coaches teach tools like validation, selective attention, and positive reinforcement. Depending on your child’s age and needs, we draw from proven approaches such as:
- Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) for anxiety, OCD, ARFID, and “Failure to Launch” (FTL)
- Parent Management Training (PMT)
- Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
- Child-focused Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT-C)
Parent guidance can be especially helpful when a child isn’t ready to engage in therapy themselves. Parents often notice meaningful progress as they apply strategies at home—reducing conflict, improving communication, and creating calmer routines.
Why Work with Parents?
Parents are powerful partners.
Even if a child isn’t ready for therapy, parents can create change at home. Parent guidance focuses on what adults can do to support growth and emotional stability.
Progress can happen faster.
Adults can understand and apply concepts quickly, helping families move forward while their child builds readiness for direct therapy.
Scheduling is simpler.
Parent sessions are often virtual and held during school hours—no need for your child to miss activities or travel to the office. Our clinicians typically have more daytime availability, so you can start sooner.
