Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) is a more severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) characterized by significant mood, emotional, and physical symptoms that occur in the week or two before menstruation and improve shortly after the period begins. Common symptoms include irritability, mood swings, depression, anxiety, fatigue, changes in sleep or appetite, and physical discomfort (such as bloating or breast tenderness). PMDD can interfere with daily functioning, work, and relationships, and is considered a medical condition requiring evaluation and, often, medication.
