Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidence-based treatment that helps young children (ages 2-7) with self-regulation challenges (i.e., attentional, emotional, behavioral). Some specific behavioral difficulties addressed in the treatment are defiance, tantrums and aggression. PCIT has two unique features – 1) it is a dyadic treatment, meaning that both children and their caregivers participate together & 2), PCIT is held via live coaching, meaning that the therapist watches through a one-way mirror or live video while enhancing parenting skills in real time. Goals of the treatment include: strengthening the parent-child relationship, improving the child’s behavior, equipping parents in behavioral management and reducing familial stress.
