Learning disorders (AKA Specific Learning Disorder, SLDs) are neurodevelopmental conditions marked by persistent difficulty in mastering key academic skills like reading (dyslexia), written expression (dysgraphia), and mathematics (dyscalculia), despite normal intelligence and proper instruction. SLD affects an estimated 5–15% of school-aged children globally, with reading disorders being the most common (around 80 % of cases). SLDs are considered to be due at least in part to genetic predispotions and differences in brain structure or function. Comprehensive evaluation, for instance, through psychoeducational or neuropsychological assessments, are essential for diagnosing SLDs and useful for obtaining recommendations for how to help the individual learn most effectively. Our treatments at TCC can help address anxiety, sadness, low self-esteem and other concerns that can co-occur with learning disorders.
